Hints and tips

Do you need help keeping the excess weight off or losing it?
Here are my top ten tips to keeping your weight down!
  1. You dont have to eat everything that is offered to you! If you are out for dinner or treated to meals out resist the urge to eat all three courses, or have alcohol with every meal.
  2. Drink water- with the heating now on and possibly drinking more alcohol over the festive season usually means you will be dehydrated, your brain is 75% water and your body needs it urgently too! 2 litres / 8 glasses per day is the official goverrnment recommendation.
  3. Make your own lunch rather than indulging in the fat filled options that are often on supermarket shelves or sandwich delis.
  4. Make sure you have the right balance on your plate for EVERY MEAL - fill over 1/2 your plate with vegetables and less than a 1/4 of the plate worth of carbs / meat.
  5. Do an extra activity a day - go for a walk, take the dog for a run, take your kids to the local park.
  6. Walk to the supermarket instead of taking the car...even if you have to do a couple of trips!
  7. If you have to take the car to the supermarket for the 'big shop' dont park as close as you can to the supermarket door (and sometimes waiting half an hour in your car to do it) - park right at the back and make yourself walk that little bit further!
  8. Get rid of the temptations - put away all the goodies that we collect before Christmas - chocolates, toffees and mince pies.
  9. Find a friend to exercise with - often the biggest motivation you will get is from friends / family telling you you are doing really well!
